The Youth Support Service provides an
INTEGRATED WRAP AROUND MODEL ...

supporting young people seeking individual social work support, advocacy and support, youth drug and alcohol assessment, counseling and group work.

Youth Support Service provides:

He Haerenga O Wananga , an outdoor adventure program with a focus on self challenge and learning for young people seeking opportunities for leadership development, increased self confidence, life skills, low risk behaviour and increased resilience.

The program works with a group of 8 young people of the same sex at any one time. The participants are assessed as to their suitability for this program.

The program integrates outdoor learning experiences with group and individual sessions. It employs experiential methods of learning and role development in order to develop young people's inner resilience and resources. Family participation is encouraged so they can support and monitor the young person's changes in behaviour.

Health education is provided in this program. In a safe and confidential setting, the young people are encouraged to think about their life stories and to consider the causes and effects of the choices that they make. Effective group bonding and facilitation lessens anxiety, encourages confidence and creates an environment conducive to personal growth and change.

Challenge through Adventure groups with a drug and alcohol focus for young people, 19 years and under, who are assessed as having mild to moderate drug and alcohol use.

Individual Casework is provided to young people and their families through home visits, advocacy, finding accommodation, information provision, mentoring, counselling, referrals to appropriate community support services and follow up. Caseworkers can make contact with young people in their settings – whether this is at school, home, flats, streets, other community agencies

Drug and Alcohol support is provided to young people, 19 years and under, in Greater Christchurch. This includes initial screening and basic intervention, with comprehensive drug and alcohol assessment where required and advocacy, support and referral

You can make a referral online or by ringing (03) 386 2159
